This is a large duck that was domesticated by native south Americans long before Europeans reached the continent. In the wild it prefered a wooded habitat but here in the UK it can be found beside lakes and large ponds where it will eat grains, grasses & insects. This is a strange looking bird that only hisses as it has no vocal cords. It will breed several times a year and provides good parental care for its young.
Domestication has produced many different colour variations.
