Eurasian, Great or Starry Bittern.
Bitterns stalk the reedy margins of ponds and watery areas feeding on fish, eels, amphibians and insects.

They are best known for the mating call of the male which is a deep booming sound which can be heard from from several kilometers away on a quiet night.
