The Eider is a seaduck found mainly off the coast of Scotland. It is the UKs heaviest duck and the fastest flying. Highly gregarious it is found in large flocks and rarely travels far out to sea. Its diet of ocean molluscs however, has seen it come into conflict with mussel farmers.
They breed amongst rocky inlets and reefs amongst gulls and terns, who give them added protection from predators.
Their call is a soft cooing.
