This is the spider which makes a dense tent like web over the end of a sprig of vegetation (frequently on Gorse) when breeding.
The male spider provides a silk-wrapped 'gift' of food during courtship, this is thought to be to discourage her from eating him after they have mated.

When hunting the spider rests with it's legs 'spead-eagled' in pairs so at first glance it may seem to have only four legs.
