A permanent resident of Canada, the Northern US and Alaska. The Chickadee (named for its song) nests in a hole in a tree in mixed or deciduous woodland.

Chickadees prefer to excavate nesting holes in rotting wood, but may be persuaded to use a nesting box if it is filled with sawdust.
