This native likes grassland, mainly damp situations in partial shade where grasses are do well, especially in woodland glades.

The circles on the underwing vary in size & number. They can be enlarged and elongated or reduced to small spots, sometimes the black ring is missing completely.

The caterpillars feed on Coarse grasses while Bramble and Wild Privet flowers are favourite nectar sources for the adults.

The Ringlet continues to fly in dull, cloudy conditions when most other butterflies are inactive.
