Flies June to August, Common throughout England, Wales and Ireland, wingspan 30-40 mm.

Named for the black dagger shaped markings on the forewings.

Without reference to subtle anatomical differences it is virtualy impossible to distinguish this species from the Dark Dagger (A. tridens)
