This appears to be the South African or Springbok Mantis. The first specimens of Miomantis caffra to be found in New Zealand were nymphs which were collected by an Auckland school boy, Richard Cuthbert, at his home in Highfield Street, New Lynn. during February 1978*. How they got there is a matter of speculation, but it has since become quite widespread.
