Wingspan 4-5cm. Forewing grey brown with black lines, hind wing orange to yellow...the abdomen resemling a birds tail.
Flies by day, with a nimble hovering flight from flower to flower....Feeds on nectar whilst hovering in the air.
Caterpillar...Green at first, becoming red-brown with fine white dots, white lines lines on its back and sides...Feeds on various species of bedstraw......
