In the wild the lion is distributed from S Sahara to S Africa, excluding Congo rain forest belt; NW India (a remnant population only in Gir Forest Sanctuary)
It feeds on a diet of wildebeests, impalas, antelope, zebras, buffalo, wild pigs, and other hoofed mammals.
The measure 8.5 - 10.8 feet long and often live up to around 15 years.
Females gestation period is 15-17 weeks and give birth to up to 6 cubs.
This is a very vulnerable animal. It is thought that there are only about 10,000 animals left in the wild.
