This is one of the most common backyard birds in the US.Its range extends over most of the eastern USA, parts of extreme southeastern Canada, and south through Mexico to Belize. It has also been introduced to Hawaii.They are non migratory birds but they do tend to move around throughout their local area. Cardinals are aggressive birds that occupy teritories year-round. They mainly eat seeds, but in the breeding seson insects are eaten as well. During winter these birds often come to feeders. Cardinals can live up to 15 years in the wild.
