A very lively bird found in eastern Australia, occurring in heaths and forests with a dense shrub layer. Because of its long bill its diet consists mainly of nectar but it will also eat insects. Breeds mostly between October and January. It builds a cup-shaped nest of grass and plant fibres; lined with feathers or hair. Length is between 150 and 160mm (including a 25-33mm tail).
