Wingspan 4-5cm....Upperside is a chessboard pattern of black and white, the underside has less contrasting markings. Distribution...southern, southeast and central Europe.
Flight period late May to Sept.
Feeds on flowers such as thistles and knapweeds.
Caterpillar...pale brown or yellowish green with brown head...feeds mainly on broom
