Wingspan 1.75-2.25" (4.5 - 5.7cm).
This butterfly feeds on nectar from various milkweed species. Range Madeira Canary Islands S Canada, N America to Venezuela, Rare migrant Portugal & Spain and very rare migrant SW Ireland, W Wales & S.England. The caterpillars are black with yellow bands and have black bristles with white and reddish spots.
