A member of the sawbill family, so called because of their long serrated bill. Breeds on fast flowing upland streams and rivers, also some upland lakes and lochs. Sometimes on lower reaches and moorland streams. It is a resident bird. Diet:fish

Incubation: 30-32 days
Fledging: 60-70 days
Maximum lifespan: 9 years
Length: 58-66cm
