Not as common as the Great Crested Grebe this diving bird seems to spend more time under the water feeding, than on top of it. It can be found on lakes, gravel pits, canals and rivers where there are muddy bottoms with plenty of vegetation. They feed on insects and larvae.
Eggs: 4-6
Incubation: 20-21 days
Fledging: 44-48 days
Maximum lifespan: 13 years
Length: 25-29cm
