This pair of Barnacle geese were guarding the entrance to their nest beyond the irises warning off any birds that got too close.
A medium sized, sociable goose. It flies in packs and long lines, with a noisy chorus of barking or yapping sounds. This bird breeds within the arctic circle on accessible hilltops, cliffs, slopes and islands with nearby coasts or rivers with plenty of grass and other vegetation to graze. It is a migratory bird and large numbers can be found on the Solway Firth (England and Scotland) and on Islay, Scotland. It feeds on a diet of leaves, stems, roots and seeds.
