The Lanner falcon is widespread throughout Africa, and in Europe it is mainly found in Italy and Sicily. Since the 1960s numbers have fallen dramatically making it one of the most endangered raptors in Europe. Their habitat is mainly to be found in rocky areas and steep cliffs around meadows. They will also often nest on coastal cliffs, with the actual nests being on the cliff face or sometimes in trees. Their diet consists mainly of small birds.
