In the wild these birds are native to Australia and Tasmania. Their habitat is to be found on shallow waters of lakes and rivers, coastal areas and marshes (fresh or salt) where they feed on a diet of aquatic vegetation and small invertebrates. Black swans are social birds and unlike other swans they often nest in colonies. They also pair for life. These birds are non migratory.
