A mutation of the Bahama Pintail this bird is native to the West Indies, northern South America and the Southern United States. Its natural habitat is by freshwater ponds, lagoons, and lakes where it feeds upon fish, seeds, snails and insects. It is a social duck usually breeding in small groups of up to 30 birds.
The sexes are alike though the females plumage and red bill are generally duller.
