A Hedge laying holiday in Dorset

In November 2005 I went on a hedge laying holiday organised by the National Trust. It was the first time that they had organised a working holiday for women only volunteers. We were to create a hedge from the existing trees and shrubs surounding a pond on the Golden Cap Estate.
There were six of us, plus three National Trust guys who taught us how to lay hedges.

Here it just looks as if we are clearing the trees!
But there is a bit more to it than that...
In places the trees around the lake were growing too thickly so needed to be thinned back
Here a clump of holly is cut back to two small trunks
