Bedding tulips should be planted in November for flowering March to May each year.
(earlier plantings may expose them to late frosts when they emerge)
Tulips require an alkaline soil, if the soil is acid, apply 3-4 oz. of ground limestone per sq. yd. just before planting.
Plant tulip bulbs 150mm deep and up to 300mm deep in lighter soils. Do not plant deeper than 150mm on heavy soils.
Plant tulips 100mm to 300mm apart, depending on the effect wanted.
Deadhead, as the first petals fall, leaving the stems and leaves to feed the bulbs,
Ideally lift the bulbs when the leaves are turning yellow.
When lifting the bulbs, remove the offsets, separate them, and layout by size, then store at a minimum of 18C in a dry shaded place until planting time.
