This species has a firm rubbery consistency. Later flattens to become more ike a black button which leaves a black mark when rubbed with the finger. 1-3cm diametre, 1-1.5cms high. Usually found on the fallen trees of oak and sweet chestnut, autumn to winter.

It is not edible.
