Very fragrant. Any reasonable soil in sun or light shade. Plant Sep-Oct 6in deep, 20cmH 20cm apart.
Also commonly planted in bowls in September for Xmas flowering. Plant with one-third of the bulb showing and keep in the dark but watered for 2 months, then move into cool, light place.
Lift bulbs after flowering and let foliage die down. Store in dry peat until autumn.
Propagate by removing offsets in autumn.
WARNING: Hyacinth bulbs can cause a skin allergy - use gloves when handling.
