Sedum (Outdoor species)

acre; (Biting Stonecrop) A 50mm high mat forming evergreen alpine with a 300mm spread and 30mm yellow flowers that appear in June/July

album; A 150mm high mat forming evergreen alpine, similar in habit to acre with a 400mm spread and clusters of 70mm white flowers that appear in July.

spectabile; A border perennial that grows to around 500mm high with pink/mauve flower heads of 75-100mm wide appear in September/October.


Cultivation

Sedums will grow in any well drained garden soil, preferably in a sunny spot.
Plant out in suitable weather between October and April.
After flowering leave the faded flower heads on the plants through the winter, cutting the stems off to ground level in Spring

Propagation x seed

Sow seed in a cold frame in trays/boxes of seed compost during March/April.
Prick off the seedlings, when large enough to handle into trays/boxes of Ji No1 potting compost (or similar), grow on till approx 50mm tall then pot on into 70mm pots of Ji No2 potting compost(or similar) and grow on until planting out time in October.


Propagation x seed

Divide plants in October planting out immediately.

Stem cuttings can be taken from March to July inserting 50-70mm shoots into a mixture of multipurpose compost and sharp sand. Grow on in a cold frame until rooted, pot up rooted cuttings into 70mm pots of Ji No1 potting compost(or similar) and grow on in cold frame until planting out time.
