Cultural notes

Lychnis will grow in sun or light shade, in any ordinary well- drained garden soil.

Propagation x seed

Sow seeds in May or June in pots/trays of seed compost and place in a cold frame.
Prick off the seedlings, when large enough to handle into 3"(75m) pots and grow on until planting out time in October.

Propagation x cuttings

Basal cuttings, 2"-3" (50-75mm) long, can he taken during April/ May insert cuttings in a 50-50 (by volume) peat & sand mixture and place in a cold frame until planting out time the following May.

Aftercare
In exposed areas, support plants with twiggy sticks or similar.
Dead head plants regularly to prevent self seeding.
Cut dead stem to ground level in late autumn.
Mulch with manure in March each year
