I did once consider keeping a yearly scrapbook about all the different things we read in the press which are either good or bad for you!
Sometime the theories/advice seem to change almost weekly!
Today's "good news" is that blueberry juice can improve your memory-mindyou you have to drink a daily pint of it for 12 weeks to show memory improvements of up to 40%-this research was done with pensioners
Guess what this data comes from the USA -and I presume probably financed by the blueberry growers -I'm all for a healthy diet and probably eat double the amount of fresh fruit and veg that most folk manage to eat but for me an added pint of blueberry juice would probably further damage my teeth and digestion!

Jean I think all these studies are somewhat ridiculous and only lead to further confusion as to what we should be eating. Opinion seems to change almost weekly as to what is or isnt good for you. I think a good healthy diet where everything is eaten in moderation is what is best for everyone. My uncle used to eat the healthiest diet going. He was almost totally self sufficient, farming his own pigs and poultry, growing many fruits and vegetables. Whenever I visted my stomach could not tolerate all the heavy breads and fruits but of course he was used to it. He was also very fit. He died of bowel cancer when he was in his early 60's and it turns out that too much roughage in the diet was probably a contributing factor as it is known that too much roughage can led to bowel problems. As long as you are healthy and active then I really wouldnt worry too much about what you put on your plate.

I agree about diets and these studies all to make the rich man richer, and don't care of others health, a stable diet like Annette said, is better.

A top bowl specialist once told me, if you eat bran it should start with one table spoon, as bran can give you an agrivated bowl, seemed to me he did nt agree with eating a lot of it at all.

I do know that Alisons bread did nt believe in white bread, he claimed it would give bowel cancer, the story was on the back of a loaf of their bread, he was a specialist and argued with the rest of his fellow learned men, and when they started making white bread, in his belief he started a bread factory only makeing brown bread.

When I was a baby I had an intolerance towards cows milk. I developed various allergies, and Mum bought me up on an alternative (no doubt she will name these as I dont really remember lol). But as I grew older and still to this day, I found I absolutley love the taste of cows milk.
I can happily drink 4 pints of semi-skinned milk every day, and was still doing this until recently when a blood test for another problem showed up an above average chloestrol reading. My Doctor has recommended I now cut down on my milk intake.
So, after all these years thinking drinking all that milk has been good for me, has proven not to be the case !!

Wendy

it wasn't milk, it was eggs - and then wool. So, you couldn't have the measles jab (eggs are used as a culture for this), and consequently got measles as a baby - but luckily you slept most of the way through it as you always do when you are unwell.

The wool allergy wasn't discovered until Nanny made you a lovely little hat made of babywool - when we took it off you, you had a nasty rash covering your whole head in exactly the same shape as the hat.

You then went on to get excema and asthma

It seems that food intolerancies and allergies are vastly on the increase. They are th ought to be the result of too many chemicals in our food and pollution in the atmosphere.
I was a healthy child but after suffering a severe anaphalactic shock in 1997 I have developed chronic fibromialgia plus a huge handful of food intolarancies and allergies which I am still trying to sort out

Mum, thanks for correcting me again lol, knew I'd got that wrong somewhere along the line.
I'm still uncomfortable wearing wool, makes me itch like mad.
But going back to the original thread, why is it things that you are told are good for you, all of a sudden become bad for you ?? Like my recent milk discovery ! To be honest, I havnt stopped drinking it, love the taste far too much, and my latest blood test showed my chloestrol level had slightly dropped, so maybe its the cheese
