To cheer me up I treated myself to a regular latte in a new smart coffee shop in town
By myself with not much to see out of the window I read all the menu and was surprised to read about Kopi-Luwak coffee-the beans are retrieved from excrement after the bean has passed through an Indonesian animal!
Thought it was a wind up then just as I was about to pass a sarcastic comment I saw a blackboard with dates and names of about 8 people who had bought a £19.99 cup of this coffee since the end of November!!!
Left cafe realising that I must be one of the more saner people who use the cafe!!!
Just looked it up on the www and realise that I'd heard about it before ie either on OGG or somewhere in the media

Rick Stein did a taste-test of this coffee at his restaurant in Padstowe, shown (I think) on his Christmas programme. I have also previously seen this on a tv programmem, but for the life of me, can't remember which one now.

Apparently the animal (I think it might be a civet cat) only eats the coffee beans that are of the required ripeness - the seed passes through undigested, but seems to have been improved by it's journey ......................

And as you say, the resultant coffee is highly prized and extremely expensive

LOL: Well, cats are supposed to be clean animals. Truffles, also highly prized, are dug up by pigs.

Thanks Oggies for response-still not sure which is the daftest ie either paying £19.99 for a coffee or agreeing to your name being on display-first name I recognised as a "local" German dentist!
