| Anyone know what to do with a bat flying around my living room, think he must have come from the attic, I thought they hibernate, he must have been trying to find his way out, should I put him out, feed him, or put him back in the attic? Pauline. | |

| Maybe you turned the heating up (understandably) and he thought it was spring, so tried to get out and took a wrong turn. I think I'd put him back in the attic, but actually don't know if this is the right thing to do. Good luck with the catching! | |

| Here is a report from someone who found a bat out of hibernation in Wales last year:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northwest/sites/nature/pages/batawake.shtml http://www.bats.org.uk/pages/bat_behaviour.html I read somewhere that during hibernation they wake up once a month to feed. Because of the heavy snowfall there is a shortage of insects so it may be looking for food or be weak for lack of it. They are a protected species so your local Environmental health Officer might be able to help. |

We have a local bat hospital here. Try googling "bat hospital" and you may find one in your area. I'm sure if you rang them, they'd give you good advice. |

| I think your right Chris, I turned the heating up for my grandson who was cold, so maybe the very cold weather, then the heat may have got him up. Thanks for the web pages Madge, very helpful and useful information. Thanks Joanna, very handy to know there are places for bats if they are sick, but my bat can fly ok, so I think he has just woken up and got lost. I also posted on wild about Britain, a lot of bat people on there, and one replied to say I could let him go as long as its not blowing a gale, or very cold, but guess what, it's blowing a gale. I found batty on top of the curtain, caught him with a rubber glove with a sock on top, very easy, so he is now in a shoe box with mealworms and water until tomorrow, thanks for all the reply's, very helpful. Pauline. |
