A new visitor to the garden today, I have never seen one of these birds, but I expect you have all seen them, also had a thrush, the fieldfare was feeding on berries, there seems to be a few of them, anyone else seen them feeding in your gardens.
Posted a pic in the album, not very good as I snapped it off the video. Pauline.

We've got Redwings here, and have been feeding on holly berries for weeks. Their high-pitched calls heard constantly, plus an alarm-call similar to a blackbird.
However, I haven't seen a Fieldfare but looking out for them; also Waxwings - one of my favourite winter migrants!

We have a flock of Redwings in the garden this week but I haven't seen a Fieldfare yet. I believe they often flock together in foraging parties.

Fieldfares are such wonderful birds. You are so lucky to have them in your garden. It is amazing where you can see them. I was sat in a carpark at the west coast today and a large flock flew past.

I v never seen redwings, but will keep a look out for them too, but yes quite surprised to see these birds right outside my back door feeding on these berries, I live in the centre of town, so just get sparrows, robins, blackbirds and crows mostly, its made a nice change,
Fieldfares are visiting birds coming into the uk in November and leaving to breed in April and May, found a bit about them on the net, says The Fieldfare is specially protected as it is such a rare breeding bird in Britain, also they are often caught by gulls after a long flight, and I ve noticed one has its tail feathers missing, I expect the severe weather might have brought them into town, I ve been soaking sultanas for them, and they are getting used to eating them now, I m hoping they will stay for a while.

I thought I had female fieldfare's, but looking at them now I think I have one fieldfare, two redwings and one thrush.
The fieldfare has been running around the garden chasing the thrush, redwings and blackbird all day, my resident blackbird put up a fight, but lost, it does nt mind the small birds and starlings, what a strange bird, and the fieldfare and redwings were still feeding at five tonight, the other birds had all gone to roost, they'v eaten all the berries and are eating soaked sultanas, it must be the cold weather bringing them into the gardens.
will post a pic of the redwing.
Nice to see you are still here Impy.

What a bossy boots this fieldfare has turned out to be, he chases everything away, even the crows, he stands by the food and guards it, one of them had no tail feathers, but I hav nt seen it since, but today I thought it was back, but now I m sure this is bossy boots who has also lost all his tail feathers, but does nt stop him chasing the birds, he even chases them with a grape in his mouth, pic of him trying to swallow it on the way.
They often feed when all the other birds have gone to roost and its almost dark, caught one still feeding when the live cam had turned to infrared, the light was almost gone. will post pics.

There were loads of birds waiting for me this morning, all hungry, but there was no sign of Bossy boots, I thought maybe losing his tail had caused an infection, or maybe a cat had him in the night, I watched all morning, then he arrived late afternoon, he seemed cold and hungry, most of the food was eaten, but he found a bit of cracker biscuit and stuffed it down, he was nt interested in chasing birds, just hungry, so put more soft food out and went to town to get more seed, they had new stock in Wilkinson's, so got lots now.
When I got back Bossy boots had recovered and was full of sultanas and was back to his old self chasing all the birds, in a way he helps to feed thrushes, blackbirds, and the redwing's as they hop around when he's chasing another bird and get some food, if the crows come, they will eat the lot and there will be nothing left, I wonder if he will come tomorrow....

All is back to normal in the garden now, the snow has gone, and I have the usual sparrows and starlings visiting, my thrush has been, but not interested in the soft food I left for him, was scratching about in the plant pots, and found a grub, so they are finding live food now, loads of food on the lawn left after the snow, so will cut down now, Fieldfare was feeding yesterday, and busy chasing all the birds, I have been out, so don t know what he's been up to today, just nice to see all the snow gone.
