Love gardening plus wildlife-allotment gardening for nearly 16 years plus enjoy attempting to keep our garden both colourful and productive We grow blackcurrants, rhubarb, broad and runner beans in the back garden plus have lots of fuchsia and hydrangeas.
Am a community governor at a local primary school and have been organising the restoration of the wildlife/environmental area there since July 04-so far we've had lots of bonfires after pruning back the brambles, cleared the pond and done some planting. It's a big site and on a slope plus finding sufficient volunteers to help has proved difficult. It is of course an on going project-were delighted that after 4 years the children are once again able to use the area, most classes have enjoyed pond dipping activities recently. On many of the bonfire sites we scattered wildflower seeds-the summertime blooms of poppies/cornflowers/corncockles/corn marigolds/ox eye daisies/red campion etc are magnificent-I must try to put a photo of them on the OGG website! My application for funding to Breathing Places/Big Lottery Fund was successful -in May 2007 we were awarded 8600.00.
Alas the allotment has been rather neglected of late so to claim it back I've had to cover it with thick black plastic in winter 2006 before starting digging and planting again in the following spring.
I enjoy growing plants from seed and confess to having lots of paper bags full of various saved seeds (in our airing cupboard) plus a huge collection of bought seeds stored in the lounge!!!
